4.7Locationandmounting
Siterequirements
Whenplanningtheinstallation,takethefollowingsiterequirements
fortheAIStransceiverandGPSantenna,intoaccount.
AISrequirement
ThisproductisNOTapprovedforuseinhazardous/ammable
atmospheres.DoNOTinstallinahazardous/ammableatmosphere
(suchasinanengineroomornearfueltanks).
TheAISunitmustbettedinalocationwhereitisnotlikelytobe
steppedonortrippedover,andwhich:
Iscloseenoughtoallowconnectiontothevessel'sVHFwiththe
3ft(1m)RFcablesupplied.
Isatleast3ft(1m)fromanengine,compassoranymagnetic
device.
Hasatleast6in(100mm)ofclearspacebelow,toallowaccess
forcablingandadequatecablebends.
Ismaintainedatatemperaturebetween-15°C(5°F)and+55°C
(130°F).
GPSantennalocationrequirements
AGPSantennaissuppliedwiththetransceiverandmustbeinstalled
inaccordancewiththeinstructionsprovided.DoNOTconnectany
otherGPSantennatotheAISunit’sGPSANT(antenna)connector.
TheGPSantennacanbemountedeitheronaathorizontalsurface
oronasuitablepole.
Ifyouintendtosurfacemounttheantenna,ensureyouhave
accesstotheundersideofthemountingsurface.
Ifyouintendtopole-mounttheantenna,thepoleneedstohave
a1inch14TPIthread.
Important:TheGPSantennamustbemountedinalocation
thatprovidesagooddirectlineofsitetotheentiresky,around
thehorizon.
Ensurethattheselectedmountinglocationis:
Openandclearofanyobstructions(suchasmasts,searchlights,
orotherstructures)thatcouldblockline-of-sighttothesky.
Aslowaspossible,tokeeptheantennaasstableaspossible.
Themorestabletheantenna,themoreeffectivelyitwilltrack
satellitesandprovidestabledata.
Asfaraspossible(atleast1m(3ft))fromotherantennaeand
electronicequipment.
DoNOTmounttheantenna:
Inanyareawhereitcouldbesteppedonortrippedover.
Upamast.Thiswillcausetheantennatoswingandgive
signicanterrorsinpositiondata.
