Chapter 5: Using the Radar 5-11
Changing the bearing mode for EBLs
The default bearing mode for EBLs is relative to your vessel’s heading. If heading data
is available, this bearing information can be displayed as magnetic, true or relative.
To change the EBL reference:
1. Press PRESENTATION.
2. Toggle EBL REFERENCE to M/T. Dependant on the equipment connected, the EBL
bearings will now be expressed as either ‘T’ (True) or ‘M’ (Magnetic) on both the
radar screen EBL label and on the ADJUST EBL soft key.
5.6 How can I get the best picture?
You can improve the quality of the radar picture by using:
The GAIN soft key and associated controls - Sea, Gain, Tune, FTC and Rain.
The TARGET soft key and associated controls - Interference Rejection, Expansion,
Wakes.
Using the GAIN functions
The gain function reduces the effects of false echoes and clutter. For the best results
Raymarine recommends that you retain the AUTO default setting. You can however
adjust these settings if required. Any adjustments that you make are retained by the
radar when it is switched off.
Sea
Radar echoes from waves around your boat can clutter the centre of the radar picture,
making it difficult to detect real targets (see
page 5-4
).
Adjusting the sea mode will reduce this clutter for up to 5 nautical miles (depending on
wave and sea conditions) from your boat. This has the effect of reducing the sea echoes
to intermittent small dots whilst small targets remain visible and persistent. Gain
levels further from your boat remain unchanged.
To change the sea clutter gain, toggle the SEA soft key to the appropriate mode for your
working area:
