Chapter 7: Using the Course Deviation Indicator 7-1
Chapter 7: Using the Course Deviation
Indicator
7.1 Introduction
With your display receiving accurate heading and position information, you can use
the Course Deviation Indicator (CDI) to monitor your course and accurately steer to a
target waypoint.
7.2 How do I display the CDI application?
To select the CDI application:
1. Press and hold the PAGE button. The Select Page Set screen is displayed.
2. Use the trackpad to scroll to the appropriate page set.
3. Press OK.
4. Press the PAGE button to display at the bottom of the screen, the applications
available in that set.
Notes: (1) Press the soft key that corresponds to the CDI display of your choice or
press PAGE until your choice is displayed.Once the CDI application is
displayed, no use is made of the soft keys. You will therefore need to
open a radar, chart or fishfinder window in order to access any func-
tions activated via the soft keys.
(2) If the CDI application is placed in multiple windows, the same data is
displayed in each.
What does the screen show me?
The CDI gives a graphical representation of yours boat’s course in a ‘rolling road’
format.
The ‘rolling road’ represents a width of sea equal to the Cross Track Error (XTE) limits
that you have specified in the Setup menu. As you travel towards the target waypoint,
the checkered pattern and the waypoint will move down the screen at a rate
proportional to your boat’s speed.
Navigation data is displayed alongside or below the rolling road.
