Chapter 8: Installation 8-3
EMC Installation
Guidelines
• Atleast 3 ft (1 m) from anyequipmenttransmitting orcablescarrying
radiosignalse.g. VHF radios,cablesand antennas.In the caseof SSB
radios,thedistance shouldbeincreased to7 ft(2 m).
• Morethan 7 ft (2 m) from the path of a radarbeam. A radar beamcan
normallybe assumedtospread 20 degreesaboveand below the radiat-
ingelement.
• Theequipment is suppliedfrom a separatebatteryfrom thatusedfor
enginestart.Voltage dropsbelow 10 V,andstartermotortransients, can
causetheequipmenttoreset. Thiswillnotdamagetheequipment,butmay
causethe loss of some information andmaychangethe operatingmode.
• Raymarinespecifiedcablesare used. Cuttingand rejoiningthesecables
cancompromise EMC performanceand must be avoidedunlessdoingso
isdetailed in the installation manual.
• Ifasuppression ferriteisattachedtoa cable,thisferriteshouldnot be
removed.Iftheferrite needs to be removed duringinstallation itmust be
reassembledinthesame position.
