Radar/Chart Overlay
• IfPlotterModeis Off,the chart scaleremainsunchanged,indicating
thesmallestchart scaleis displayed.
Note:IfPlotterMode isOffand the cursorishomedto the vessel(see
UsingFINDSHIP onpage 2-20),ifthevesselmovesoutside anareaof
available cartography,thechartwillautomaticallyre-scaletothenext
rangewithcartography.
• IfPlotterModeisOn,thescaleisdecreasedandthemessageNO CHART
DATA isdisplayed.Thevessel,waypoints,routesand tracklinesare dis-
playedwithoutcartography.
Thechartinformationisrestoredwhenyoureturntoachartscaleforwhichthe
information is available.
➤ Tozoomouttoasmaller-scale(lessdetailed)chart,simplypresstheupperpart
oftheRANGE keyasmany timesas required.

Ifradardata isavailable,as a function ofthecombined radar/chartdisplayor
fromanotherdisplayconnectedon
hsb

,theradartargetscanbeoverlaidonto
thefull-screenchartplotterdisplay.The radar/chartoverlayoption helpsyou
todistinguish betweenfixed,chartedobjectsandother objectsthatcould be
movingvessels.Someradar controlsare availablein overlaymode.
Thefollowingcriteria mustbetrue forradar/chart overlay to function
correctly:
• Position and headingdataare providedsothatvessel position andorienta-
tioncan be determined.SeeHeading and PositionDataon page 1-9 for
furtherdetails.
• Thevessel must be displayedon screen.
• ThechartplottermustbeinNorthUporCourseUpmode(seeSection 7.7).
• Thechartplotterrange must be between1/4nmand48nm (equivalentto a
radarrange of 1/8nm to 24nm).
• Customrangescalesare disabledon the radar.
• Theradar must be transmitting.
Toensurethevesselremainsonthescreen,youcoulduseFindShip(seeUsing
FINDSHIP on page 2-20)to home the cursoronto the vessel.
WhenRadar/Chartoverlayis switchedon, the statusbar indicatesOVL.Ifthe
optionis switchedon but the overlayis not visible(because one of the above
criteria has failed),the statusbar indicationchangesto(OVL).
