1.3 The Chartplotter Display
The PLUSseriesdisplaycan includesaChartplotter.Thechartplotter
includesasmall-scale worldmap anddetailednavigationinformation is
displayedwhenacartographic chart card isinstalled. Thedetailsdisplayed
dependonthe chartzoomlevelselected.Aplottermodeis providedtoenable
routeplottingand trackingat largescaleseven whena chartcardis not
installed, or when the chart is zoomedbeyond the availablecartographic
detail.A typicalchartplotterscreenis shown inFigure 1-5.
Thechartplotter uses positioninformationfromaGPS, DGPS,WAAS or
Loran-Cinstrument.Oncethepositionfixhasbeenestablished,yourvessel’s
position,ifonscreen, isshown as a boat shapepointinginthe directionof the
currentheading(or COG ifheadingdatais not available).If no headingor
COG datais available,the vesselisshownasacircle.
Thechartplotterscreenincludes a statusbar thatdisplays chart scale,with
eithercursorposition,range andbearingor, when the cursor is homedtothe
vessel(bypressingFIND SHIP), vesselposition,SpeedOverGround(SOG),
CourseOver Ground (COG) and fix type (VES POS, DIFFIX or SD FIX).
Thestatusbaralsoindicatesif radar/chartoverlayis switchedon.
Anywaypoints you have placedare displayed(unless you turnedthem offin
ChartSet Up as describedin Chapter 7) and thecurrentrouteis shown.
Information canbe viewed on-screenby positioningthecursor over a
waypoint,currentrouteor chart object.The chartplotterscreen can alsoshow
additional information,depending on your currentlyselectedoptions,set up
selections and dataavailablefromotherequipment.
Anexample chart display,in itsdefaultconfiguration,witha chart card
installed, is shown in thefollowing illustration.
Severalfunctionsare availableto controlthe displayasfollows:
Zoomin/out and PantheDisplay
Offsetthe Chart or CentertheChartaround the Vessel
OverlayRadarTargetsonto theChart Display
Synchronize the Chart and Radar(if radar datais available)
