8.3 Selecting the Display Unit Location
Thedisplayunit can be mountedusing the mountingbracketsupplied,or
consolemountedusing the optionalflush-mountingkit.
Thedimensionsofthedisplayunit,including thebracket,areshown in
Figure 8-3and Figure 8-4.
Whenplanningthedisplayinstallation,thefollowingshouldbeconsideredto
ensurereliableandtroublefreeoperation:
Convenience:Thecontrastand colorsseenonall LCD displaysvary
slightly withviewingangle;this is more noticeableon thelefthand side.
Powertheunit and selecta suitablemountinglocationpriorto installing
the display.
Themountinglocationshouldbe easilyaccessibleto allow operationof
thefrontpanelcontrols.
Access:Theremust be sufficientspacebehind the displayto allowcable
connections to therearpanelconnectors, avoidingtight bendsin the cable.
Interference:The selectedlocation shouldbe far enough away from
devicesthatmaycause interference,suchasmotors,generatorsandradio
transmitter/receivers(seethe EMC guidelinesearlierinthissection).
Magneticcompass:Mountthedisplayunitat least3 ft(1m) awayfroma
magneticcompass.
Cableruns:ThedisplayunitmustbelocatednearaDCpowersource.The
powercablesuppliedis4.9 ft. (1.5m),but a longercablecan be used if
required:referto Section 8.4.
Themaximumlengthofcablebetween a master displayand the scanner
unitshouldnotnormallyexceed60ft.(20m).Ifyou needto use a longer
cable,referto the PathfinderRadar ScannerOwners Handbook.
Environment:Do not restrictairflowattherearof the displayunit;
the displayincorporatesColdCathodeFlorescentLamps (CCFL),
whichhaveareduced lightoutputwhen theunitisveryhot.
Ensurethereisadequateventilation,particularlyifthedisplayunitis
pod-mounted.
Thedisplayshouldbeprotected fromphysicaldamageandexcessive
vibration. Although thedisplayunitiswaterproof, itis good practiceto
mountitin a protectedarea away fromprolongedand directexposure to
rainand saltspray.
